The Kress Building opens on Broadway as part of the nationally recognized S.H. Kress & Co. retail chain, bringing one of America's most successful five-and-dime stores to downtown Tacoma.
1929

Broadway flourishes as one of Tacoma's busiest commercial corridors, surrounded by retailers, theaters, and local landmarks that define the city's growing downtown.

Post-War Broadway
Downtown Tacoma continues to thrive as a retail destination, with businesses such as Leed's Shoes, Payless Drugs, and the Kress store serving the community.
